BMC is an international initiative. It is run for girls, starring girls- all of whom are in the special time of life around their Bat Mitzvah. The soul of the program is the idea that reaching Bat Mitzvah is far beyond a service in the synagogue or a party- it is a spiritual transformation. A Jewish girl’s soul becomes complete within her, and she takes her place in the long, beautiful and strong chain of Jewish women, stretching all the way back to our matriarch Sarah. And in joining these exalted ranks, a Jewish girl needs to ask: Who am I inside? What does my Jewishness mean to me? What are the unique gifts of Jewish womanhood? How can the women who came before me light up a path for my own life?
The actual program is not more Bat Mitzvah prep. It is a chance for Jewish girls around the same age to connect, question, debate, create, learn, and share- on topics that are relevant to today’s adolescent girls, and Jewish traditions that are uniquely connected to femininity and being a woman. We will meet weekly October -May (time and day depending on the group’s preferences) and work through a curriculum that is interspersed with special activities, crafting, cooking, and mother & daughter events so you get to learn together with your daughter! We journal every week and get a chance to reflect and integrate what we learned.
